“It’s not time that heals, it’s forgiveness” – July 7

This session focused on sharing writing, offering feedback, and continuing to draft pieces for this summer’s production. With a growing collection of original work, this week’s readings highlighted the ensemble’s creativity and collaborative spirit.

Before the session began, conversations centered on the recent storm, power outages, and anticipation surrounding new policies. After gathering for check-ins and the ring, the ensemble turned to sharing their pieces.

One ensemble member opened with a piece exploring time and healing, reflecting,

“It’s not time that heals, it’s forgiveness.”

One facilitator added,

“Forgiveness is what actually heals—action, not waiting.”

Another participant praised the piece, saying,

“That piece would go viral. It gives perspective.”

One ensemble member wrote a commercial-style piece that filled the room with laughter, while another shared a piece honoring women who had passed away.

The conversation expanded into a broader discussion about grief. Another participant shared,

“Grieving is impossible in here.”

One ensemble member shared a powerful piece that was described as “from the heart.” The poem resonated deeply with the group, prompting the writer to read it again. Another participant compared its emotional journey to “changing phases like the moon.”

The ensemble continued to share writing throughout the night, connecting each other’s work to shared experiences and fueling the ensemble’s collaborative spirit.

The session concluded with free writing, additional share-outs, and conversations about music that may be included in the production. As the ensemble gathered for the ring, participants left with confidence in their work and excitement for what the next few weeks could bring.
