This was the ensemble’s final performance of the summer. The ensemble returned to the stage for one final show, bringing the production to an energetic and celebratory close.
Before the performance, ensemble members set the space and prepare props and costumes. The energy was light as the cast chatted, laughed, and complimented each other’s hair and makeup. Past ensemble members returned to watch the final show, adding to the sense of community in the room. Before the curtains opened, the ensemble gathered for check-ins, the ring, and a warm-up. An ensemble member also led a moment of silence before the performance began.
At the start of the show, the audience quietly responded and encouraged the cast. As the show went on, their energy grew. The audience erupted with laughter, singing, and cheers filling the room. Performers played off the audience’s reactions, with more improvisation, silliness, and interaction woven into the performance.
One ensemble member especially enjoyed being able to connect directly with the audience, sharing,
“I like that I can connect with the audience.”
The audience sang along with the music, laughed throughout the character changes, and reacted enthusiastically to the performers. One piece involved a rap that received a particularly big response, and the energy in the room continued to build as the show went on.
The ensemble also found opportunities to bring more people into the celebration. Two ensemble members who were not performing in one of the larger scenes were invited to join the cast for the ending dance, creating a joyful final moment for the whole group.
After the final performance, the ensemble invited the past ensemble members to join the ring and reflected on the summer before beginning conversations about plans for the fall. The final show was a celebration not only of the production, but of the community the group has built and continues to build through creating their own original work and sharing their voice with others.
