Daniel Valentine is a dynamic and multifaceted professional dedicated to youth development, education, and the arts. A native Detroiter and proud alum of Central State University in Ohio, Daniel graduated in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications – Broadcast Media. It was during his college years that he discovered his passion for playwriting—a passion that quickly turned into purpose. Since then, he has written, produced, and directed nine original musicals, each blending powerful storytelling with relevant social themes and dynamic music. His work celebrates Black voices and centers the experiences of youth, identity, and transformation.
With over a decade of experience working with youth—including five years focused on college access—Daniel has built a reputation for creating programs that inspire and empower. While still in college, he actively volunteered with youth and student organizations, laying the groundwork for a career rooted in service and impact. He later returned to Central State to lead the Marauder Jumpstart Program, designing and implementing a leadership training curriculum for incoming freshmen.
Since 2020, Daniel has served as Program Director of the world-renowned Detroit Youth Choir, featured in the Disney+ docuseries Choir. In this role, he has combined his educational and artistic skills to help shape the creative direction of the choir and mentor the next generation of performers. His artistic leadership has brought innovative theatrical productions to life, elevating youth voices through performance.
In 2022, he also served as Program Director for the Impact Movement’s National Conference—one of the largest African American college campus ministries—continuing his work in national youth leadership and event planning.
Currently, Daniel is the Professional Development Program Manager at the Detroit College Access Network (DCAN), where he supports college access professionals across the region. In 2023, he completed the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative, deepening his commitment to urban youth development.
Most recently, in March 2025, Daniel stepped into the role of Education Coordinator at Detroit Public Theatre, a position that merges his passion for theatre, education, and community engagement. He is thrilled to join the DPT team and bring transformative arts experiences to students across the city. For Daniel, this role is the perfect intersection of his lifelong love for the arts and his dedication to youth empowerment.
Whether on stage or in the classroom, Daniel Valentine brings creativity, purpose, and heart to everything he does. A lifelong advocate for the arts, he believes in their power to inspire change and build community.
